Ghost Coast Distillery, Savannah’s first distillery since before Prohibition will officially open for tours today.
Located at 641 Indian St., the distillery will offer tours every hour, on the hour Monday through Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“After three years of hard work, we can’t wait to open our doors to visitors and locals this week,” co-owner Chris Sywassink said in a press release.
The 17,000 square-foot building, once home to Frozen Paradise nightclub, was constructed in 1958 and has undergone a complete renovation to make way for a tasting room and 10,000-square-foot aging and distilling area.
“Our goal was to create an experience unlike anything else in Savannah or at other distilleries, and we think people will like what we’ve come up with,” added co-owner Rob Ingersoll.
Lifelong friends, Sywassink and Ingersoll say their mission at Ghost Coast is to share the history of Savannah in an engaging, and interactive way for locals and visitors alike. The tours will utilize digital display and projection mapping technology to support and enhance the storytelling experience and showcase The Hostess City in a new light.
Guests can select from two historic tour options. The first incorporates a tour with a tasting for $12.50, and the other option includes the tour, tasting and a souvenir bottle of Ghost Coast Vodka 261 for $32.
The name of their first Vodka, Vodka 261, pays homage to the 261 years between the end of Georgia’s first prohibition to the establishment of Ghost Coast Distillery.
With a primary goal of creating bourbon, Ghost Coast will be distilling a wide range of spirits, handcrafted by a select team of artisan distillers. Guests must be at least 21 years old or accompanied by a legal guardian. ID is required.
