At West Construction, we believe the future of our industry is built with people. This summer, we’re proud to welcome our largest intern class to date: five talented students who have chosen to spend their summer learning the construction business from the field up. Four of our interns are from Georgia Southern University, and one joins us from The University of Alabama.
Construction is a profession learned through experience. While classrooms provide the foundation, jobsites bring it to life. Our internship program gives students the opportunity to see firsthand how planning, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership come together to transform ideas into finished projects.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Our Georgia Southern interns come from programs within the university’s Civil Engineering & Construction department, which offers degrees in Construction Management and Construction Engineering. Students in these programs study subjects such as project management, estimating, scheduling, safety, building information modeling (BIM), cost analysis, and sustainable construction practices. These programs are designed to prepare graduates to lead complex construction projects from planning through completion. Sources: Georgia Southern University Construction Program information.
Our University of Alabama intern is studying Construction Engineering through the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering. The program combines engineering principles, construction management, project planning, scheduling, cost estimating, and safety practices to prepare students for leadership roles in the construction industry. Throughout the summer, our interns will work alongside project teams, superintendents, project managers, and trade partners to gain exposure to the day-to-day operations that keep projects moving forward. They’ll see how schedules are built and managed, how budgets are protected, how safety remains the top priority on every jobsite, and how strong foundations contribute to successful project results.
Investing in the Future
The construction industry continues to evolve, creating exciting opportunities for the next generation of builders. As projects become more complex and technology continues to reshape how we work, the need for skilled, motivated professionals is great. Internships provide students with practical experience while helping companies like ours identify and develop future talent.
Welcome to the Team
We are excited to have these five future construction leaders on board this summer. Their willingness to learn, ask questions, and gain hands-on experience represents the passion we love about our job. You’ll find them on the job sites and on our social media.
To our interns: welcome to West Construction. There’s no syllabus this summer, just real projects, real challenges, and real opportunities to learn.
We’re glad you’re here, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish.
