64-Room Boutique Hotel to Feature Distinctive Mass Timber Design on Historic Oglethorpe Square
SAVANNAH, GA – West Construction is proud to announce that groundbreaking has commenced on the highly anticipated Sabal House Hotel development, a 64-room upscale boutique hospitality project located beside the historic Owens Thomas House on Oglethorpe Square in downtown Savannah’s Historic District.
The thoughtfully designed Sabal House Hotel represents a unique blend of historic preservation and modern construction, combining a 150-year-old historic inn with a newly constructed building. Upon completion, the development will feature oversized luxury rooms and suites in the Historic Presidents’ Quarters, alongside rooms in the new mass timber building, all connected through a beautiful outdoor courtyard.
The new construction will incorporate sustainable mass timber building techniques, complemented by cast stone and brick masonry that harmonizes with the historic character of one of James Oglethorpe’s original six squares. The historic Presidents’ Quarters building will undergo renovation to refresh and restore elements from its 1980s renovation while maintaining its cherished historic character.
Located in Savannah’s Historic District – the largest in the nation with buildings dating back to the city’s founding in 1733 – the Sabal House Hotel will offer guests walkable access to major attractions including River Street, the Owens-Thomas House, and the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
The Sabal House Hotel development represents West Construction’s continued commitment to preserving and enhancing Savannah’s architectural legacy while meeting the evolving growth of our beautiful city. West Construction specializes in high-quality construction projects that honor historic architecture while incorporating modern building techniques and sustainable practices.
