Tybee Island Marine Science Center
Completed on schedule and under budget, the Tybee Island Marine Science Center combined 4 different structure types with unique architecture into the finest marine educational facility in the Southeastern US. Thanks to months of pre-planning and collaboration between construction and design partners, the complex structure and interior systems were carefully vetted and sequenced to expedite construction and minimize errors in the field. The building features post tensioned concrete framing, structural wood framing, structural steel framing, and impact rated curtain wall glazing to provide 270 degree panoramic views from the facility’s eastern flank. In addition to the complicated structure, our team worked tirelessly to determine how to best build, waterproof, and finish the facility’s pedestal flooring system, located throughout the interior. The project has been recognized by the AGC, the AIA, and most importantly, the thousands of children who visit the new facility annually.
